A Show Home with a Cause

A Show Home with a Cause Cinnamon Shore and Texas Monthly have named a local animal rescue organization as a beneficiary from a portion of show home tour proceeds.

When you visit Cinnamon Shore this spring and summer, you’ll have a chance to tour the first-ever Texas Monthly Gulf Coast Show Home opening for public tours Memorial Day weekend and through August. You’ll also be contributing to a great cause: That’s because a portion of home tour ticket sales will go to a local non-profit group that helps injured marine animals recover. Texas Monthly magazine and Cinnamon Shore have announced that the Animal Rehabilitation Keep, known as the ARK, at the University of Texas at Austin Marine Science Institute (UTMSI) will be the home’s charity beneficiary. Located at UTMSI in Port Aransas, the ARK rescues, rehabilitates, and releases sea turtles, aquatic birds, and other creatures that live in and around Mustang Island-area waters. Under the direction of UTMSI associate fellow Tony Amos, the organization rescued 245 sea turtles in 2016 alone, along with tens of thousands of birds since the ARK’s inception in the early 1980s. The rehab facility receives partial funding from the National Estuarine Research Reserve but relies heavily on donations. Volunteers from UTMSI and ARK, along with staff from Cinnamon Shore, will host the Show Home tours and sell $10 tickets at the door. The selection makes a natural choice for Texas Monthly and Cinnamon Shore. “As a long-time UTMSI advisory council member, I know firsthand the importance of Tony Amos’s great work with coastal wildlife resource,” says Texas Monthly Publisher David B. Dunham.  Cinnamon Shore developer Jeff Lamkin, CEO of Sea Oats Groups, LLC, has noticed the dedication and effort of Amos and those who support his tireless efforts. “When we were looking for an area non-profit that could benefit from the influx of visitors who will be drawn to this area to see the Texas Monthly Gulf Coast Show Home at Cinnamon Shore, it just made sense to choose the ARK,” Lamkin says. A portion of Show Home ticket sales also will benefit the Cinnamon Shore Giving Fund, which supports a variety of other Port Aransas non-profit groups.
