Your Perfect Spring Break Reading List

Spring Break is fast-approaching, which means it’s just a matter of time before you’ll start packing to head somewhere warmer. Of course, a perfect packing list isn’t complete without a few must-reads -- after all, is there anything better than lounging by the ocean, sand between your toes, salty breeze through your hair, a warm sun, and a good book?

Whether you are a hopeless romantic, a classics aficionado, a thrill-seeking mystery lover -- or anything in between -- we have compiled a list of books both old and new you won’t regret tossing in your bag before taking off to the beach this Spring.

For the Romantic

The Smallest Part

The Smallest Part by Amy Harmon
Friendship, family, and romance are intertwined in this novel. Complete with twists and turns, Amy Harmon succeeds in creating a beautiful and unique story that will leave you contemplating lessons of life and love to the soundtrack of crashing waves.

For the Detective

All By Myself, Alone

All By Myself, Alone by Mary Higgins Clark
Gem-expert Celia flees public embarrassment by lecturing on a luxury cruise ship and finds herself in the middle of a dangerous murder mystery. Thrills abound in this page-turner, and you’ll be glad to have your feet firmly on the sand.

For the Pop-Culture Follower

Bachelor Nation - Inside the World of America's Favorite Guilty Pleasure by Amy Kaufman

Fresh off the presses, Amy Kaufman tells all in this unauthorized look into the reality powerhouse that is The Bachelor. This exposé promises to be the most dramatic book of the Bachelor ever, and if one episode a week doesn’t cut it for you, you’ll love getting insider information that will have you looking forward to the next season of Bachelor in Paradise.

For the Season

The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnet

This timeless classic follows a troubled young girl as she sets out to find a secret garden, and along the way, find herself blooming. This 100 year-old novel has survived the test of time, and for good reason. You’ll be swept away in dreams of spring on a manor in England as the Texas sun warms your face.

For the Nicholas Sparks Fan

 The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks

No Spring reading list is complete without The Notebook. Mill worker Noah and rich girl Allie serve as a Romeo-Juliet story, kept apart by family disapproval and life’s circumstances. If you haven’t read it, spring break is the perfect time to get swept up in the classic love story. If you have read it, you’ll enjoy it so much more while laying by the ocean.

For the Self-Help Seeker

The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning by Margareta Magnusson

Hoarders have nothing on Margareta Magnusson. In this book, she describes the Swedish tradition of Death Cleaning and humorously chronicles her own experiences. There’s no better time to dive into this instructional book and prepare yourself for spring cleaning than during the long, relaxing days at the beach.

For a Beach Read

Secrets in Summer by Nancy Thayer

Darcy lives in Nantucket and enjoys her easy beach-town lifestyle. However, her summer quickly turns complicated when her ex-husband and his new family rent the house next door. This story of navigating relationships under the summer sun is perfect to flip through as you lounge around to the sounds of seagulls and crashing waves.

Any of these books will be the perfect complement to your beach and pool time in Port Aransas this spring break. Don’t have plans yet? It’s not too late to book your family a spot in the Cinnamon Shore community for a refreshing break. Also, if you forget a book or read through them before your time ends, feel free to stop by our “take-a-book, leave-a-book” community library near the reception desk. We look forward to seeing you these coming weeks, happy spring and happy reading!
